I grew up in Oregon, rolling around in the snow with friends because it felt right. Then I bought a plastic tub and started hiking into the mountains to find freezing water. Every time, same result. Clear head. Big smile.
Last August I moved to San Francisco for school and saw Ocean Beach for the first time. The long sand. The cliffs at Sutro. I didn't plan anything. I pulled my clothes off and got in, underwear and all. I was hooked.
Since then I sleep better, think clearer, and show up better for the people around me. It's the one thing that quiets my head, every single time.
Every time I get out of that water, I'm on a different wavelength. More energy. More patience. More me.
Something this real shouldn't be done alone.

No gear required. RSVP, sign the waiver, then just show up as you are.
01
Show up.
Same spot, same time, every week. You’ll spot the group before you even reach the sand.
02
Walk in together.
Everyone goes in at the same time, nobody’s out there alone.
03
Stay as long as you want.
Thirty seconds or five minutes, there’s no clock and no one keeping score. Your body tells you when you’re done.
04
Warm up as one.
Jumping jacks, a jog down the sand, arms swinging, whatever gets the blood moving again. This is usually where the best conversations happen, everyone buzzing, laughing, feeling alive.
Ocean Beach is real open ocean. Not a pool. Not a calm bay. Please read this before your first time.
This is not a supervised activity. There are no lifeguards on duty when we meet. Nobody leading the group is a certified water safety professional. You are responsible for your own safety and your own choice to get in.
Talk to a doctor first if you have a heart condition, uncontrolled high blood pressure, epilepsy, are pregnant, or have any condition that cold exposure could affect. And never plunge under the influence.
Go in with a buddy. Don't plunge alone your first time. Know where you're getting out before you get in.

Ocean Beach runs from the low 50s in winter and spring to around 60 in the fall. Cold enough to wake you up, colder than any tub you’ve probably tried. The first fifteen seconds are the hardest part, then your body adjusts. Everyone feels it, that’s the whole point.
No. This has nothing to do with fitness level. If you can walk into cold water and breathe through it, you’re ready.
A towel, a bathing suit, and warm layers to throw on right after, hoodie, sweatpants, whatever you’ve got.
Completely fine. Come meet people, see what it’s actually like, decide from there. No pressure, ever.
Ocean Beach is real open ocean, read the safety section above before your first time. We go in as a group, nobody’s pushed, and you’re always free to stay shallow or sit a week out if the water looks rough.
About an hour, 9 to 10am. Show up, walk in together, plunge as long as you want, warm up as a group after. Come for all of it or just part of it.

Before your first time, read and sign the waiver. Takes two minutes.
Open the waiver →Founding Plunge · Sunday, Oct 25 · 9AM

Meet in front of Andytown Coffee Roasters and Safeway, right next to the 31 and 5 bus stop. We'll walk to the ocean together from there.
